Wilkes University Students Complete Research in Hawaii during Spring Break

Wilkes University students participated in field research in Hawaii during spring break. The trip was in conjunction with the spring course, "Geology of Hawaii" taught by Sid P. Halsor, professor of geology and coordinated with the GeoExplorer Club and Bobby Karimi, assistant professor of geology. Students spent several days in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park exploring the volcanic features associated with Kilauea volcano, the most active volcano on earth and in continuous eruption since the current cycle began in 1983. Highlights included a tour and presentation by US Geological Survey geoscientist at the Hawaii Volcano Observatory, close-up observations of active lava flow on the volcanic field and night-time view of the vivid red glow over the Kilauea summit crater where lava fountaining was occurring.

Wilkes University Students Participate in Alternative Spring Break with Guanin Center, Inc.

Wilkes University students participated in an alternative spring break trip in the Dominican Republic, volunteering with The Guanin Center, Inc. in La Piedra, Santo Domingo. The students worked with the organization to teach the community English. The children and community leaders took English second language classes taught by Wilkes students. Students also interacted with the community members of La Piedra. Alternative spring break offers students an opportunity to perform community service while experiencing a different culture and developing their leadership, teamwork and critical thinking skills. Crystal Cool, assistant director of diversity affairs; Erica Acosta, associate director of diversity affairs; and Tyisha Williams, assistant professor of biology accompanied the students on the trip.

Recognition is Granted to Students who Studied Abroad in Fall 2016

Muhlenberg encourages students in every major to study overseas while earning college credit towards their degree. In fact, 52.4% of our graduates from the Class of 2017 studied abroad during their college career. The College supports four discipline-specific study abroad opportunities as well as offering over 100 approved programs in Europe, Asia, Oceania, Latin America and Africa.

Cedar Crest College Carmen Twillie Ambar Sophomore Expedition

Cedar Crest College's Sophomore Expedition is a unique program that allows every sophomore who is in good academic and judicial standing to study abroad during spring break at no extra cost. This year's trip is to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from March 3 to March 11, 2018. Travel, lodging and meals are paid for by an anonymous alum. Minus the cost of a passport and visa, it won't cost students anything beyond their regular semester tuition, room and board, and fees.

CSAC Names 29 Falcons to Fall All-Academic Team

The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) has named 29 Cedar Crest College student-athletes out of a total of 576 student-athletes to the Fall 2017 CSAC All-Academic Team. The CSAC All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a grade-point average of 3.20 or better during their semester of competition, while using a full season of eligibility as determined by the NCAA.

Cedar Crest College 2017-18 Annual Day of Service

Cedar Crest College believes that being civically engaged in one's community is a critical step in one's life journey. Each year during New Student Orientation, students are provided an opportunity to begin their civic journey by volunteering during our annual Day of Service. This opportunity allows students to serve others while demonstrating learning, connection, and caring involvement in the surrounding community. The Class of 2021 teamed up with faculty and staff members, Interim President Elizabeth Meade, and the Friends of the Allentown Parks for the college's Day of Service on Saturday, August 26, 2017. The group cleaned up the grounds between Fountain Park and Valania Park in Allentown. Later in the day the group walked to Zion's Reformed United Church of Christ at 620 Hamilton Street, where Cedar Crest College held its first classes on September 5, 1867, for a photo.

America Reads and America Counts is a tutoring opportunity that works with local children in before school, during school and after school programs to help children develop and improve their reading and math skills. Cedar Crest College students work with community children from kindergarten to 12th grade.
